Carrie Howder, the artist, standing in front of a large abstract mural.

Carrie Howder is a self-taught abstract painter using the acrylic medium. Her paintings tend to encompass the various landscapes and experiences she has encountered along her path.

Carrie resides in Waltham, MA and has lived in Minnesota, California, Arizona, Georgia, and the District of Columbia. The youngest of three siblings, Carrie has grown-up with an urgency to keep up and a high competitiveness streak. These instincts lend a high energy flow and liveliness to her work. Single through most of her life and confronted with family tragedies, her paintings reflect the struggles that she experienced through her life.

Carrie started painting as a way to mitigate the stress in her life mostly caused by her high stress career and her diagnosed depression. Painting gives her a way to express herself, combat her depression, and let go of anxiety.

Carrie’s work has been on exhibit at the John Hancock Building in Boston and the law firm of Seyfarth Shaw LLP in the Seaport District of Boston. She is honored to have many of her painting hanging in her clients’ homes.

Carrie has been volunteering for Samaritans since 2011.  Every September she captains team CHOWDER at the Samaritans Hope 5K Run/Walk for Suicide Prevention.
